Current Novel Study: _The Giver_

Happy weekend, scholars!

I'm hopeful that you are enjoying The Giver. . . . Just wait until the last twenty pages.

Remember the listing activity we did today (Friday) in class? All of those incredible yet indescribable activities and events?

Poor Jonas would have never experienced any of those.

Now . . .

He experiences them all -- but alone, in isolation because his friends and family are sadly incapable of the memories.

Which is worse for this soon-to-be thirteen-year-old: never experiencing them, or experiencing them by himself, not able to share any of the wisdom-building, rampant memories?

The Giver by Lois Lowry

See you Monday, bibliophiles.

Yours truly,

M. Kittner

Can't believe Wake lost to Cleveland State. That was a very sorry game for Wake. I'm halfway through "Al Capone Shines My Shoes" and I must say it is a great read.

Z. Hawkins,

Wake self-destructed in the final thirteen games of the season (7-6). What was with the "freestyle" offense Friday night?? Wake had no game plan and even less talent that night.

Cleveland St. has some flair, some confidence: they beat Syracuse (at Syracuse) earlier this year -- that one kid (#4, I think) can shoot the three! Wow!

Some more good games today!

Im trying to get Lucas to the upcoming AR party. I dont know if he'll make it. I think he'll need your help. Oh by the way, i told him about "Things Not Seen" and he loves it!! It made me happy. But you should give him some books! He's got a lot of points to get! (haha, a lot is two words:D ) Do you think he can make it?

"THE GIVER" IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE BOOKS EVERRRR!!!! IM SO GLAD WE READ IT!! :)

I believe -- and don't quote me -- that the movie will be released in 2010.

It will be pitiful compared to the novel, I'm sure.

I'm super glad you loved it, D. Moses -- I told you it was AWESOME. You've done an incredible job with your Bloom's Taxonomy questions and an even better job with your class discussion: "He (Jonas) died. He died." (ten minutes later) "He lived! Wait... He lived! WaHHHHHHHHH!"

Sound familiar? :-)

We'll do our best to get L. Manning to the AR party; compared to last year, he has made flabbergastingly wonderful progress. You and I just need to keep recommending those great books for him!

ahahahahahahahaha!
yes, that sounds like me.
but this time i really do beleive that he "sledded" into another community.

thanks to ur helpful hint
;)
wink, wink.

sorry about my spilling the ice on the fact that the author HERSELF (not quoted) said he lived. but, i didnt know it was a secret. i was still in shock when i saw it, especially after i made my "flabbergasting" comment that he himself, jonas, did in fact die. lol. but i learned a lot by the comments of other students too. they have wonderful minds...but not as great as mine, hehe :D

ahaha, yes, i dont think i've ever had as much fun as i've had in ur class.
Going to highschool sucks.
=/
arrrgg.
but i hope i get into east.
wish me luck!

I must concur, D. Moses: that third period discussion was amazing. Briliant questions and comments.

As for my class being fun, it's only as fun as its students.

And high school is going to "suck" . . . you'll love it! East will be lucky to have you!

PS: "I" ALWAYS gets capitalized! (aghhhh . . . stop the madness). Great job with a (space) lot.
Oh, I loved the sagacious metaphor "spilling the ice."

Dear M.K, (continuing)

OMG, I just noticed that those "I's" were not capitalized! Ahaha, my bad. I learned how to do something cool today!! Have you ever made music with wine glasses? I have! I spent an hour doing that! Its so interesting! I just love it!

I wish that East could see how greatly I could impact their school. But I'm still trying to get my appeals through.

This quarter I'm trying to make all A's. I think i can do it. But I might have one "boo-boo". Gym. The class with true hatred against it and has evil leaking from the inside out. Where that one class, can ruin your entire all A's goal. Ahhh (!), I hate gym! Its so annoying.

Haha, yea, I dont like "spilling the beans" so i came up with my own: "spilling the ice(.)" Pretty clever, eh?

Ohh-Emm-Gee!!
Guess what!!
Well, you cant, but yea. lol.

Mrs.Baril, the music teacher (my orchestra teacher), is letting me play one of MY songs on the piano the "I" came up with!!! (As an introduction (when people are getting seated))!!! I have NEVER had any type of lessons on the keyboard. I am COMPLETELY SELF TAUGHT!! Isn't that cool!! Im super excited!!
:D
