And we're off, scholars!

AR has begun, scholars! All tests are up and running, waiting to be crushed. You scared? Are you? I know AR has nothing on me. He better back up if he knows what's good for him. I owned him last year and will do the same in '08-'09.

Now, what about you? Are you going to allow AR to bully you, own you?! Looking at some of your points last year, um . . . yeah, he did. Not this year, though! Let's get after him and show the 8th grade and all of Walkertown that Executives eat AR points for breakfast!

Right out of the gate: J. Barnes carrying 19 points already!! Are you kidding me?! Her back may be hurting soon from carrying all of those points! Z. Hill and L. Lynch coming in strong with 10.7 and 9.9 points, respectively. Don't leave out J. Holcomb's 6 points! C. Gray also tallied a point today! They all add up, one here, one there.

23 points by noon on October 8 gets you into the AR Hawaiian Beach Bash!

Set yourself up for success: be prepared to read at school every day and at home three nights a week. AR has arrived, baby! Be ready for various competitions. It's on!!!! Feel my passion, scholars?!

Where's yours?

Yours truly,

MK

It's going to take a heck of a lot more than 150 points to "crush me this year," big dog. I get 150 pts. while I'm zzzzzzzzzzzzz, J. Ring!

Whether novels are current or not...they're worth reading... Gone With the Wind brought over 176,000 readers a year after it was released in 1936 and the numbers continued to rise as the years went on. Later that year it recieved the Pulitzer Prize.
In 1939 the film was first shown and over 2,153,000 copies of the book had been sold and translated into sixteen different languages. Gone With the Wind is one of the most classic books written about that time era.
I've watched the movie over and over again and now I want to read the book...
I like to read old-fashioned things (My mom always tells me I was born about 60 years late)...and after Gone With the Wind, I'm reading the book from Rhett Butler's point of view.

K.Overstreet

P.S.
Have you ever read the book/seen the movie?

K.Overstreet

Wow. That demonstrates incredible maturity on your part, K. Overstreet! Just as you do, so too do I enjoy vintage movies: CASABLANCA is my favorite, but I like anything with Humphry Bogart in it.

As for books, however, I kind of take an opposite approach: I enjoy authors that dip their feet into motifs of the furture: MICHAEL CRICHTON & LOIS LOWRY come to mind.

Given your penchant for old-fashioned things, I believe you will truly enjoy MONTMORENCY: THIEF, LIAR, GENTLEMAN, set in the backdrop of Victorian London. We'll read it in the 4th quarter.

Keep reading, K. Overstreet. Remember, I'm gunning for you in AR! :-)

PS -- Get some sleep! 11:12 PM post?? I would be zzzzzzzzzzzz . . .

Sweet! I thought you would enjoy Sarah Dessen's motifs and themes, M. Birnbaumer! In my personal library, I have many authors whose novels deal with the exact genre you mentioned in your post. We'll talk about them, and you can add the novels to your Someday Book list! :-)

I'm glad your enjoying SOMEONE LIKE YOU! Keep reading! :-) I'm proud of you!

As you know, S. Schuster, the movie will be absolutley horrible to those of us who have read the novels -- as is normally the case.
That said, I can't wait for you to read all of the SHOPAHOLIC books, too!
