Week 1 ... Finished Already??

Happy weekend, scholars! Can you believe the first full week of school is "in the books"? That said though, you took full advantage of the last week and a half. Let's magnify and reflect on what we accomplished these last eight days:

1. Commenced on SSR with summary/reflection reading logs
2. Learned our first vocabulary list
3. Participated in the media center orientation
4. Reviewed the characteristics of a personal narrative
5. Completed Language Practice Warm-up 1
6. Wrote our first two Friday reflections
7. Led a student-based discussion on "defining moments"
8. Collaborated on our first two personal narratives, "Sweet" and "Hands of Love"
9. Shared summaries of your novels to classmates
10. Had a good laugh at my amazingly funny jokes and weekend comic relief! ;-)

Phew! (wiping forehead) That's a lot for the first eight days!

I'm absurdly impressed! You scholars are A-W-E-S-O-M-E (totally)! Relax this weekend and we will go hard on Monday.

Read those novels, bibliophiles, and don't forget to blog! :-)

Yours truly,

MK

Just as in Act III of any Shakespearean play, here is your comic relief for the weekend:

S. Haynes,

Sweet! Top Ten worthy, huh?

Conrats on _Crank_; I've heard nothing but amazing things about that (dark) novel. Since I loved _Go Ask Alice_, do you think I would enjoy it?

Have a great rest of the week and keep up the great work in class! :-)

Mr. Kittner,
I really like books that I can relate to and books that I don't want to put down. I like books like _Go Ask Alice_ and the Sarah Dessen Novels, Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks Soo Much!

A. Wooten,

First of all, I cannot wait to read the rest of your personal narrative!! You are extremely talented with the pen.

OK, let's talk books. You liked _Go Ask Alice_ (well, who doesn't?). Hmm ...

**I've heard _Crank_ by Ellen Hopkins is well written. This is a series, I think (_Impulse_, _Burned_, and _Tricks_ are other titles). Note: these are all "9th grade and up" like _Go Ask Alice_ is.

Here's the link (Scroll down, after copying and pasting, for a synopsis):
http://www.amazon.com/Crank-Ellen-Hopkins/dp/1416995137/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1283892773&sr=1-1

There will also be a "Customers who Bought This Item Also Bought" section that you can check out.
Start there, A, and I'll dig up some more.

Let me know if you would like me to add them to my library. You, of course, will get first crack at them.

Keep up the AMAZING effort and attitude! I'm proud of you and all that you ARE going to accomplish this year! :-)

Mr kittner, and A. Wooten-

_Crank_ was amazing! Im guessing from what I know about _Go Ask Alice_ they are very similar, so if you enjoyed _Go Ask Alice_, _Crank_ is perfect.

Thanks, S. Haynes!

Having been captivated by _Go Ask Alice_, I've inked _Crank_ on my Someday Book List.

Can't wait to rip it open!

Mr. Kittner,

I just finished _Mockingjay_ the other day. It was so unbelievable. At the end I really didn't know how to react. Tell me what you think and what part you are at (without giving away to much of course!) Hope your having a good year so far! :)

B. Porter,

Great to hear from you!! How's high school treating ya?

What are you studying in English I? How are the vocab tests?

Currently, I'm on page 147 of _Mockingjay_ and loving it! After its completion, I'm going on to _Sabotaged_, the third in M.P. Haddix's _Found_ series!

Keep in touch, and let me know if you need anything!

Tell all of my 2009-2010 scholars that I said "HEEEEEEEEEEEEEY!"

Mr Kittner,

High school has been great so far!

In English I we are going throughi story plots. Yesterday we finished a short story called _The Most Dangerous Game_, and today my teacher said that we would be making a plot map for it.

As for the Vocab tests they are nothing like yours! She will give us 20 words and 1 week to learn the spelling, part of speech, and definition. On the test there is three parts. Spelling (kind of self explanitory)but she does call the words out, Mathcing the words with their definitions, and using the words in a sentence (it just multiple choice).

I definitely will let you know if I need some help. Thanks!

Mr. Kitner,

I LOVED _Go Ask Alice_!! One of the best books I have ever read. Like Sarah said about _Crank_ it's in one of my top ten. Thank you for the recomendation. Can't wait to start _Wait till Helen Comes_. Have a great weekend!

J. Murphy,

Sweet! I'm excited that you enjoyed (in a sullen mood, however) _Go Ask Alice_; that piece of nonfiction will be a perennial classic. Oh, and you kicked butt on the AR test! Nice!

Although I found _Wait Till Helen Comes_ a bit scary at times, it's a comedy compared to _Go Ask Alice_. It's still a solid read, nonetheless.

Let me know if I can offer up any more suggestions! Three more coming Monday!

You, too, have a great weekend, J, and keep up the fabulous job in class!
