EOG Answer Key: "Garrett Morgan" Practice Packet

Happy weekend, scholars.

Here is the much anticipated answer key for the EOG practice packet ("Garrett Morgan").

Passage 1: "Garrett Morgan" by Nathan Aaseng

1. A
Distractor: D
2. B
Distractor: C
3. A
Distractor: D
4. A
Distractor: C (probably true, but this choice reads "inventionS"; in P3 only one is discussed)
5. D
Distractor: B (again, "inventionS")
6. D
Distractor: B
7. D (because he was the fire chief and endorsed the product, more chiefs would likely buy the helmets for their employees)
Distractor: C (people/firefighters already knew for what the helmet was used -- to escape/assist in a burning building)

Passage 2: "The Spider" by Robert P. Tristram Coffin

I thought this was an extremely poorly written selection; the poem is wonderful, but the questions and answers are ambiguous and off the mark. Note: this was not put together by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, so don't stress too much over this selection.

8. D.
Distractor: B (we are informed many times that the web is almost invisible)
9. B
no distractor
10. C
no distractor
11. HORRIBLY written question
Answer A
Distractor: D (I don't like the word "image" in the question b/c that may lead too many people to omit A since it's not literally an image.)

12. D (But I don't like this answer since "taskS" imply more than one, and we only read about the spider's intricate web)
Distractor: C (This is almost a correct answer b/c yes, spiders are actually part of the animal kingdom, but the entire poem talks about making the "complicated web" not spiders just being "intelligent" in all other aspects.)

13. BAD question
Answer: D (meaning that the web is complicated or precise)
Distractor: C (see above explanation for distractor). The poem only talks about the spider crafting his precise web, not being all-around intelligent -- much like one can be a shockingly amazing -- but not super intelligent -- artist.

14. A
Distractor: D

Again, astoundingly poorly written questions and answers. Your EOG will have both written very clearly.

Passage 3: The Electric Guitar

15. D
16. G
17. D
18. G
19. A (look at the first line of the second paragraph)
Distractor: B
20. H
21. B
22. H

This was a challenging packet, scholars, questions made you think critically. We wouldn't want to practice with simple ones now, would we?

Feel free to disagree with any of these "answers" (sometimes the key is wrong, believe it or not). However, you must explain why you think your answer is the MOST correct or BEST response.

See you tomorrow.

Yours truly,

M. Kittner

I like my teachers, the work is going to be way too hard next year! I think I'll go write some disturbing poetry.... Oh and by the way I am going to comment everyday next year so, you better comment back!

I've updated the blog, calling the dance what it actually is: a semi-formal. Yes, girls need to wear dresses; boys, shirts, slacks, and ties.

You also need to have all of your school work turned in.

Fun! Fun! Fun!

Can I have that "Trouble With Television Paper" tomorrow. I'll come over there in homeroom. How much do yearbooks cost?

M. Kittner said...

C. Surface,

Yes, you may collect all of your missing work any day during think zone. You better make sure every assignment is completed (all classes) by May 29.

Of course I'll have the blog running next year.

I only missed two questions on the extra credit passages, twelve and sixteen. Can you tell me if I have any missing work?

D.Mabe

Great, D. Mabe! That was a challenging practice test on which to only miss two questions.

Number twelve is unfairly written. (I suspect you put C?)

Missing work can be picked up during think zone or after school.
